Corcreggan Mill

Corcreggan Mill

18th Century Corn Mill

Property Address:

Corcreggan, Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal

Description:

The Mill is a completely original (non-restored) stone building, which dates back to 1789. It was the focal point of the local community and has some very special historical attributes. It stopped production in 1965.

It still has its mill wheel, grinding and shelling stones and wonderful cast iron machinery. It also has full Riparian Rights to the Mill Stream, which served it.

All the floors, beams, king-posts and roof trusses are pitch pine and there is a flag stone floor on the ground level.

The Mill is on the junction of the N56 and the county road. There is a 'long shed' beside the top (second) floor, also stone, which measures 450²ft (41.8²m). Each of the three floors of the Mill measure 1215²ft (112.8²m).

Travel Directions:

The property is situated on the N56, Donegal's coast road from Letterkenny on the Northwest, beside New Lake, with views of Tramore beach (one mile) and Tory Island, and is two miles west of the very popular scenic village of Dunfanaghy. Please see our location details for additional information.

Development:

The Mill is structurally sound. The Mill machinery is still intact complete with shelling and grinding stones.

The owner's plan for this building was to double the size of the 'long shed' 450²ft (41.8²m) to provide seating, catering and toilet facilities for a restaurant (with magnificent views over New Lake and the Atlantic, to Tory). A lobby/ reception and staircase (312²ft/29²q m) would link the 'long shed' to the Mill, which could have a myriad of Arts, Cultural and Historical purposes. The total floor area would then be 4855²ft (451²m).
