Corcreggan Hostel Station and Kiln House

The area has an abundance of archaeological and environmental attractions. The property itself is set in a hollow which has been described as a pre-celtic ritual site and the energy centre for the North West of Ireland. There are numerous recorded archaeological sites within an 8 km radius. The Hostel is on the shore of New Lake, a protected wild-life sanctuary and is within easy reach of the wild unspoilt Tramore Beach and Horn Head Cliffs.

Brendan Rohan - Owner

The owner of the property is Brendan Rohan, who bought it in 1990 and started the Hostel in 1991. Since then it has gained great popularity as a magical, happy and peaceful retreat, a holiday home for mind, body and spirit. The Hostel is a member of the Independent Holiday Hostels (formerly known as Independent Hostel Owners) and is approved by Bord Fáilte, the Irish Tourist Board. It has attracted glowing reports and recommendations in Travel Guides such as Guide du Routard, Let's Go, Lonely Planet and Rough Guide.

'The Stables'

The Stables have been renovated and converted to provide kitchen, dining and shower facilities for the campers, who camp on the lawn in front of the Mill Cottage, beside the Mill stream.

The Mill

The Mill will hopefully be restored to become a working model and visitor centre with coffee shop by day, and in the evening provide a unique venue for performances of music, dance, theatre and story-telling. It is also hoped to provide workshop facilities for a wide variety of cultural, spiritual, historical and artistic subjects.

Scenery and Activities

There is a wide variety of spectacular scenery within easy reach. Just across the road is New Lake, a protected wild-life sanctuary. To the west of New Lake is the remote and magical Tramore Strand, two miles of golden sandy beach with no roads or houses and very few people (footpath access only). At Dunfanaghy village is Killahoey Strand which has road access with a car park. Many hostellers make day trips to Glenveagh National Park, Dunlewy Lakeside Centre, Muckish Mountain, Errigal Mountain, the many beautiful sandy beaches, Horn Head's famous cliff walks and seabird colonies, Ards Friary and Forest Park and Tory Island with its world famous Primitive Art School. Walking along the old railway line from Creeslough to Falcarragh and as far west as Burtonport (passing through magnificent wild unspoilt countryside) is popular with distance walkers. Also close by is the Ulster Way.
