The 24' Wheel | The Mill is a completely original (non-restored) stone building, which dates back to 1789. It was the focal point of the local community and has some very special historical attributes. It stopped production in 1965. It still has its mill wheel, grinding and shelling stones and wonderful cast iron machinery. It also has full Riparian Rights to the Mill Stream, which served it. The internal Crown Wheel
All the floors, beams, king-posts and roof trusses are pitched pine and there is a flag stone floor on the ground level. The Mill is on the junction of the N56 and the county road. There is a 'long shed' beside the top (second) floor, also stone, which measures 450²ft (41.8²m). Each of the three floors of the Mill measure 1215²ft (112.8²m).

The restoration of the Mill ("the Jewel in the Crown") was left until last so as to gain the necessary experience before touching this imposing and historically important building. |
